5 Ways to Polish Your Personal Brand in 2025
Okay, phew, the holidays are over. It’s back to business. If you’re like me and you’re thinking about how to hit the ground running this year, you’re probably considering polishing your online presence. Here are five simple ways to start:
Audit your Digital Presence
Look, we’ve all started and abandoned accounts before. If there’s a platform you’re no longer using, for whatever reason, just jump ship. You can either delete the account altogether or pin a post explaining to people where to find you. That’s exactly what I did with X, a platform I no longer find relevant or useful.
Think of it as a gracious way of exiting a conversation so you can focus your efforts elsewhere. Get really clear on where you want to show up, and be intentional about what you want to do there. You could even write a one-liner to remind yourself how you want to show up in these spaces. (For example: On Instagram, my new goal is to be your digital BFF. I’m going to take a very different approach to LinkedIn because it’s a different audience.)
2. Revisit your brand book
Every entrepreneur or creative professional should have a brand book that acts as a bible for how you want to portray yourself online. This can be a formal document, like a PowerPoint or Canva presentation, but it can also be a folder or Pinterest board of your favourite colour palettes and overall desired vibe. If you want to get crystal clear on who you are online, use Canva to create brand guidelines that include your fonts, colour palettes, and other aspects of your visual identity. Here’s an example of one I created last year. You can use my template to make your own by following the link.
3. Update your socials
Recently, I read somewhere that your Instagram bio should read like a status update, and I loved that. Gone are the days of painfully constructed “about” sections—just tell me what you’re working on! On LinkedIn, updating your socials could mean ensuring your work history and portfolio links are up to date. On Instagram, you could be teasing your latest project. A little effort goes a long way in keeping your profiles fresh and relevant.
4. Get new pics
Girl, I know professional photos are an investment, but believe me, they make a world of difference. A good set of portraits can last you for years and can be used on everything from your socials to your contact poster. If you’re in the Toronto area, I recommend Rose Gold Productions.
5. Update your service or product offerings
Recently, I’ve been thinking about adding digital products to my website in addition to the descriptions of services I currently offer. I’ve also been revising my service offerings based on client feedback and changing demands.
