Shadowland Theatre: From Puppets to Pixels

Challenge: While Shadowland Theatre was busy entertaining audiences with masks, puppets, stilt performances, live music, and fire ceremonies, the outdoor performance company had neglected keep up with the way it presented itself online and connected with audiences through digital technology.

Solution: Shadowland contracted me to help the company build its path to digital. We started with a digital maturity assessment, which included an audit of how the company uses communication technologies, from its website to its email list to social media channels. From there, I developed a digital needs assessment, which helped the company understand its priorities and areas of opportunity.

The final deliverable was a 50+ page strategy which outlined a clear path to digital. The strategy became the company’s playbook for developing itself online over the next few years, and addressed everything from security compliance to best practices for documenting and archiving the theatre’s live performances online. It was packed with useful information including links to additional resources, recommendations, step-by-step guides, and industry-leading tools.
